Moisture first

A finished basement is only as good as the water plan

South Shore basements see high water tables, ledge and spring runoff. Framing and drywall over a damp wall is how you get mold behind a brand-new finish.

We start with drainage and vapor control: exterior grading, sump and perimeter drain where needed, rigid foam against the foundation and no fiberglass touching concrete. Then the room.

FAQ

Basement Finishing: questions homeowners ask

Do I need a permit to finish my basement in Massachusetts?

Yes. Creating habitable space requires a building permit plus electrical and plumbing permits for that work.

Can I put a bedroom in my basement?

Yes, with a code-compliant egress window or door, adequate ceiling height and, on septic, Board of Health approval for the added bedroom.

My basement gets damp. Can it still be finished?

Usually, once the source is addressed. We diagnose first: grading, gutters, sump and drainage, then insulate with moisture-tolerant materials.

How long does basement finishing take?

Typically 5–9 weeks of construction, depending on bathroom and egress work.
